Dentists MEET
THE REVERSE MARGIN™
DESIGN

The Reverse Margin™ is a design feature that describes the shape of the margin built into a custom abutment and its complimentary prosthesis. It affects the direction of flow of cement during the process of intra-oral cementation. The Reverse Margin™ redirects the flow of the cement away from, rather than into the tissues that surround dental implants. This margin design can be used as part of the Cement Control System™ proposed by Emil L.A. Svoboda PhD, DDS, to prevent or reduce the occurrence of peri-implant disease.

Why should dentists want to use the Reverse Margin™ System as part of their Dental Implant Treatment?

Implant treatment can lead to an amazing standard of care for patients.
However, inherent risk factors can predispose patients to complications. Some of these risk factors relate to the patient’s health and ability to maintain the tissues around the dental implants. Some risk factors relate to the current treatment processes.
It is estimated that 65% of patients experience some degree of peri-implant disease.
The onset of the disease is likely to occur 3 years after treatment and displays a non-linear accelerating pattern to 9 years.” (1)“At present there are no predictable concepts for the treatment of peri-implantitis. Primary prevention is of prime importance.” (2)

Every Patient has the right to choose what is best for them

And they usually do not like to experience preventable complications. The Government (5) thinks an optimized fit of implant parts is important for treatment stability.

The dental literature agrees, and in addition suggests that poor connections with crowns and bridges and leaving cement below the gums also put patients at risk of peri-implant disease.

There are many difficult to control factors that can cause problems with treatment and result in its early failure. Wouldn’t you like to minimize the risk of problems for yourself and your patients? Begin by using a system of treatment that was specifically developed to reduce several risk factors for complications.

The Reverse Margin is an approach to restoring
dental implants born out of 21st century research
and development. It consists of three parts:

A unique patented custom abutment

that is used to connect new teeth to implants. It has an “inflected margin design” that can protect patients by making it easier for dentists to optimize the fit of implants to abutments and new teeth. It also helps the dentists prevent cement from going deep into the tissue spaces.

A unique patented custom prosthesis

The custom prosthesis is cemented over abutment(s), after they are installed onto their implants in the mouth. Its design allows for more controlled low-pressure cementation and facilitates excess cement movement out of the tissues rather than into them. Its profile also compliments that of its abutment, to compensate for Prosthesis Dimensional Error and mitigate the Tissue Effects.

A complimentary installation system

Simply stated, the Reverse Margin™ System is designed to help dentists to consistently achieve better results for the patient by reducing known risk factors for mechanical and related biological problems like peri-implant disease.
Indeed, the troubling prevalence of peri-implant disease reported by Derks & Tomasi (6) prompted the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDSO) to advise all dentists in Ontario of these important findings, by sending them all a printed copy. (7)
An influential Prosthodontist wrote in his book, “It is likely the abutments of the future will look very different from what we see today”. (8)
The future has arrived! Dr. Svoboda has created the Reverse Margin™ System that is different and makes it easier for dentists to avoid exposing their patients to several risk factors for peri-implant disease.
